Our EFAP has officially changed to TELUS Health

Our Employee and Family Assistance Provider (EFAP) has officially transitioned from LifeWorks to TELUS Health.

There are no changes in the services provided by TELUS Health compared with LifeWorks; this transition mainly concerns the brand and product names (TELUS Health acquired LifeWorks in 2022).

What’s changing?

After transitioning from Morneau Shepell in 2021, and now another change from LifeWorks to TELUS Health, there have been a couple of different company name iterations of our EFAP provider. Here are the main changes:

  • The EFAP platform is now called TELUS Health One, and the services are provided by TELUS Health.
    • Some emails and URLs may still include a “LifeWorks” address, but these will redirect to the appropriate TELUS Health location.
  • This name change will not impact the services and benefits you currently have access to. You can continue to use all the features, tools, and services that have been provided through LifeWorks.
  • The LifeWorks app for iOS and Android will automatically update to the “Health One” App.
  • TELUS Health’s communication will often reference EAP (Employee Assistance Program) instead of an EFAP. These two terms are interchangeable, but we will continue to use EFAP as it is important to remember your family (eligible dependents) can also utilize the service.
  • The TELUS Health One platform now includes a new scheduling tool. This tool gives you more control and choice when seeking out a counsellor.

Finally, as a reminder: When you connect with a counsellor via TELUS Health you will be speaking to someone who has a minimum of a master's degree in a related field and is licensed with at least five years of EFAP-specific experience.

Privacy and cost

We also wanted to assure enrolled faculty and staff that this benefit is 100% paid for by UBC and is still available for you and your dependents. There are no changes to the privacy considerations we have in place with LifeWorks when you access the new TELUS Health EFAP services – use of the EFAP is completely confidential.

For more information visit the Employee and Family Assistance Program. If you have any questions or comments about our EFAP and the change to TELUS Health, please contact efap.info@ubc.ca.

Help spread the word

If you would like to share this update in your location, feel free to print off the newly branded TELUS Health brochure and poster.
