Centre for Teaching, Learning  and Technology Salary Scale for Sessional Lecturers

The basis for the CTLT Instructor salary scale is the minimum salary scale for Sessional Lecturers under the Collective Agreement, reached between the University and the Faculty Association.

The 8-step salary grid that was developed in this agreement allows for sessional lecturers’ salary progression as experience is gained. To create some consistency and ease of understanding between compensation models as they apply to CTLT and face-to-face instruction, while retaining the flexibility to allow CTLT to offer courses with small numbers of registrants, it was decided to adopt the sessional scale* and assume that a full on-campus course would have 30 students. Expressing this scale in terms of payment per credit:

As of July 1, 2009 until further notice:

Step Sessional Rate per course credit CTLT Rate per student per credit
1 $1,990 $66.33
2 $2,014 $67.13
3 $2,040 $68.00
4 $2,062 $68.73
5 $2,088 $69.60
6 $2,111 $70.37
7 $2,136 $71.20
8 $2,159 $71.97

Please note that this scale will not change again until negotiated and agreed upon by UBC and the Faculty Association.

In order to ensure comparability across the University, CTLT plans to place sessional lecturers and graduate students on this scale in accordance with the guidelines agreed to by the University and the Faculty Association. Full-time Faculty and Emeriti will automatically be placed at the top of the scale.
