Memo: M&P Compensation Review – Pay Grade and Salary Administration, Phase 2 Effective July 1, 2017 (May 25, 2017)

Subject: M&P Compensation Review – Pay Grade and Salary Administration, Phase 2 Effective July 1, 2017


Further to our update of March 22, 2017, today we have information regarding the July 1, 2017, “Adjustment #2” implementation.

We are targeting July 1, 2017, for implementation of the second of three phases of changes resulting from the M&P Compensation Review, to appear on July 15, 2017, paycheques. This includes salary grade changes and salary adjustments.

Your department administrators will shortly receive a spreadsheet that lists the M&P staff in your faculty/department whose salary grades and/or salary will change as a result of the second phase of this Compensation Review, with instructions on next steps.

HR will be sending individual memos to M&P staff members whose salary grade and salary are affected by the Compensation Review. The target date for these memos is the week of June 12, 2017. M&P staff members whose salary grade and salary will not be impacted will not receive a memo.

If you are planning on making either a salary offer or a salary adjustment on or before July 1, 2017, please consider the possible impact of changes resulting from the M&P Compensation Review. You can refer to the table in the March 22, 2017, memo to determine whether the individual’s salary will be impacted on July 1, 2017, by the implementation, and plan accordingly. For example, if you are hiring a new employee in June 2017, and the starting salary is above the midpoint of the salary range, and that job family level moves to a higher pay grade on July 1, 2017, then the individual will receive a salary increase to the midpoint of the new, higher salary range on July 1, 2017.

Please also note that effective July 1, 2017 AAPS members will receive a General Wage Increase (GWI) of 0.5%.

Implementation of Phase 3 of the M&P Compensation Review will occur prior to the effective date of July 1, 2018.
