Memo: Merit Pay Program (June 27, 2014)

Memorandum
Date: June 27, 2014
From: Michelle Berner, Director, Human Resources – Total Compensation
To: Heads Up and HR Administrators
Subject: Merit Pay Program – 2014

The University’s performance-based Merit Pay program recognizes and rewards meritorious performance. The following employee groups are eligible for this program:

  • Management & Professional (including AAPS),
  • Executive Administrative staff (i.e., excluded clerical),
  • Farmworkers, and
  • Non-union Technicians and Research Assistants.

UBC’s Merit Pay program is designed to provide an opportunity to move eligible staff who have demonstrated above average performance from the midpoint toward the maximum of their salary ranges.

Generally, around this time of year we send departments/faculties a spreadsheet of their staff who are eligible to be considered for merit.

However, this year we are in the process of making adjustments to a number of job family levels in the M&P compensation plan as a result of the most recent market review of compensation. You may recall that the 2014 adjustment dates are: January 1st, July 1st, and December 1st. (http://www.hr.ubc.ca/memos/implementation-of-the-mp-compensation-review-dec-16-2013/)

Because changes from this compensation review will affect the salary and pay grade of some staff, the Merit Pay program for 2014 is being delayed until after the July 1st phase of the compensation review has been implemented. Merit pay decisions will generally still be effective July 1, 2014.

We will provide merit spreadsheets to departments/faculties after the compensation review changes have been processed.
