Subject: Changes to Minimum Wage in British Columbia Effective June 1, 2018

The Government of British Columbia announced that it will be increasing the provincial minimum wage, effective June 1, 2018.

The new minimum wage hourly amount is:

September 15, 2017 June 1, 2018
General minimum wage $11.35/hour $12.65/hour

Full information on the BC minimum wage can be found here.

In reviewing our employee database, a number of staff and student employees were identified as currently being paid at or below the $11.35/hour rate. As of June 1, 2018, Human Resources will automatically raise the rate of those employees to the new minimum wage rate of $12.65/hour.

If your faculty or department has salaried students, please ensure that their salary is at least equivalent to the minimum wage for the number of hours they work.

Moving forward, please ensure that all appointment forms are reflective of the new BC minimum wage.
