Memo: Changes to the Extended Health and Dental Rate Effective January 1, 2012, for Sessional Faculty with an appointment of less than 50%

Memorandum
Date: Dec. 12, 2011
From: Michelle Berner, Director, Human Resources – Total Compensation
To: All Sessional Faculty with an appointment of less than 50% who are enrolled in Extended Health and/or Dental
Subject: Changes to the Extended Health and Dental Rate Effective January 1, 2012, for Sessional Faculty with an appointment of less than 50%

Your extended health benefits plan assists in reimbursing for specified medical services and supplies while your dental plan assists in reimbursing for dental care costs for services such as exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, bridges, and orthodontia.

To ensure that the rates are at the appropriate levels, the experience of both plans was evaluated. As a result of increased claims usage, upward adjustments in the dental fee guide, and changes to the government prescription drug program, it was necessary to initiate increases to the rates (approximately 2% increase for extended health and 5% for dental care).

Since the premium rates for your Extended Health and Dental Care plan are 50% employee / 50% employer paid, your portion of the rate will change effective January 1, 2012, as follows, and will be reflected on your December 31, 2011 pay advice (premiums are taken one month in advance).
