Memo: 2017 MSP Premium Rate Structure Change (Dec. 1, 2016)

Memorandum
Date: Dec. 1, 2016
From: UBC Human Resources
To: Employees who are Enrolled for MSP through UBC Who Pay Premiums Through Payroll Deduction
Subject: 2017 MSP Premium Rate Structure Change

The British Columbia Ministry of Health has announced that the calculation of MSP premium rates will be changing effective January 1, 2017. The new rate structure and rates will reflect a reduction of costs to single parents.

Current

MSP monthly premiums are assessed based on single (one individual), couple (two individuals) or family status (three or more individuals).

Effective January 1, 2017

MSP monthly premiums will be assessed based on the number of adults covered.  The MSP premium rate for one adult (with or without children) will be $75 per month and the premium rate for two adults (with or without children) will be twice the amount of the single adult rate at $150 per month.

The table below shows what you currently pay and the new premium effective January 1, 2017.  The change in premium will appear on your December 31, 2016, pay statement (premiums are taken one month in advance). You can view your pay statement online via the UBC Faculty and Staff Self-Service website (VPN is necessary to access Self-Service off campus).
