Volunteering & Community Service

UBC offers opportunities for its faculty and staff for professional development through volunteer opportunities and community service.

Leave for Change

Leave for Change is an overseas volunteer opportunity for UBC Staff. Together with Uniterra, an international volunteer agency, UBC sends six staff members abroad every year to volunteer in developing countries, sharing their knowledge and skills with others in an international setting.

Community Leadership Program

The Community Leadership Program is an exciting professional development opportunity for UBC staff and employees from our corporate partners, to explore the meaning of leadership through a series of interactive, participatory workshops. Participants will learn to mentor and lead a group of UBC students who are volunteering at a local elementary school during their Reading Week break. This experiential, hands-on approach to student learning is called community service learning.

UBC Community United Way Campaign Loaned Representative Program

The United Way Campaign Loaned Representative Program is a rewarding professional development opportunity for staff (Vancouver). Loaned Representative positions are paid, four-month secondments that allow you to contribute to community building and fundraising while being relieved of your regular work responsibilities. Learn valuable new skills during a fun, action-packed, 16-week period in the fall and help United Way raise funds to support over 500 programs and initiatives across the Lower Mainland.
