Funding for Employee Development

As part of the University’s commitment to an outstanding work environment, as outlined in Place and Promise, UBC’s strategic plan, we seek to provide our faculty and staff with improved access to professional development opportunities. UBC Human Resources administers professional development funds for several employee groups at UBC.

Professional Development Funding

Management & Professional Staff: The M&P Professional Development Fund provides PD funding for staff  belonging to the Management and Professional employee group.

Technicians & Research Assistants: The TRA Professional Development Fund  and the TRA Professional Develoment Award Program  support the professional development needs of  non-union Technicians and Research Assistants (TRAs).

Administrative & Clerical Support Staff: The Job Skills Training Program (JSTP) provides PD funding for staff  belonging to the  CUPE 2950 employment group

Executive Administrative Support Staff The Executive Administrative Professional Development Fund   (EAPD) provides PD funding for staff belonging to the Executive Administrative employment group.

Okanagan Support Staff: Professional development funding is available for BCGEU support staff at the Okanagan campus.

Faculty: Professional development reimbursement is available for Regular Faculty and Sessionals with Continuing Status, as well as for Sessionals without continuing status. This fund is administered by UBC Finance.

Research Associates: The Travel and Professional Development Reimbursement Fund for Research Associates  covers expenses related to travel and professional development activities. This fund is administered through the VP Research & International Office.

Faculty and Staff Tuition Waivers: The UBC Tuition Fee Waiver provides eligible UBC staff and faculty with tuition assistance for approved undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as non-credit courses offered through Continuing Studies.
