As part of your role as a manager/administrator at UBC, there is a lot you can do to support your staff with their career and professional development goals. As we launch into the new academic year, here are some resources you can share with staff and faculty in your department to help them plan their professional development for the year.
UBC is committed to providing staff and faculty with improved access to professional development opportunities through access to professional development funds. Please select your employee group to learn more about the funds available to you.
Human Resources holds several professional development workshops throughout the year, available to staff and faculty. Eligible staff and faculty can apply to use their PD funding for these workshops. Visit our catalog to see a full listing of upcoming events.
Lynda.com offers an online collection of self-guided instructional videos designed to provide staff and faculty with just-in-time resources to assist in a variety of areas, including updating software skills, learning new technology tools, and enhancing workplace business practices.

The Coaching at UBC program offers free one-on-one professional coaching services for staff and faculty. Coaching is a great way to explore topics of interest to you, and to start to map out a plan for your own professional development.
Our career navigation consultant offers support to staff who wish to enhance their professional experience by exploring and using the many opportunities for growth within UBC. Interested staff can visit our career navigation services page to learn more.
We are holding a three-part workshop series this fall, starting Nov. 14, on Building Career Resilience in Change.
Staff in most employee groups have access to UBC tuition waivers for credit courses, and for non-credit courses at UBC Extended Learning (as well as select Sauder School of Business Continuing Business Studies courses). Coaching@UBC has several coaches available for UBC staff and faculty who are interested in working with a coach for areas of professional and/or personal development. Our coaches can work with you to identify the goals you wish to work on, help you to explore ideas and remove barriers, and support you in crafting a plan to take action to move your goals forward.
