Water Restrictions Still In Effect

Water Restrictions Still In Effect

Please share this with your staff and faculty

In spite of the cooling weather, an ongoing lack of rain means that Stage 3 water restrictions are still in effect in the GVRD. Since UBC changed its water use practices on July 21, water consumption on the campus is down 40% compared with last  year:

UBC Water Restrictions and Extreme Fire Rating

Please share this with your staff and faculty

Due to unseasonably dry and hot weather, Metro Vancouver has issued stage 2 water restrictions and an extreme fire rating for Pacific Spirit Regional Park and the lower mainland. Starting this week at UBC, lawns will only be watered once a week, all power washing and window washing will be discontinued, and campus water features will be taken off the potable water feed and drained where necessary. Drained water will be used for irrigation whenever possible.

An extreme fire rating means that no burn permits will be issues and that campfires and briquette barbecues are prohibited. Please be aware of spark and fire sources – smokers should carefully dispose of butts and ashes in non-flammable locations.
