PD Opportunity: Lynda.com for CUPE 2950, EA staff

Posted by: | May 2, 2013 | no comments

Please share this with anyone who manages CUPE 2950 and Executive Administrative staff.

All support staff  in the CUPE 2950 & Executive Administrative employment groups now have free access to access to Lynda.com, an industry leading on-demand software training & tutorial video library.

The Lynda.com online e-learning resource has been sponsored by the Job Skills Training Program (JSTP) and Exec Admin PD Fund through monies set aside for this group-wide education opportunity, and is available all CUPE 2950 and Exec Admin staff free of charge for the 2013/14 funding year.  During this pilot year of service, we will be surveying staff and managers to evaluate the usefulness and effectiveness of Lynda.com as an ongoing e-learning resource. Please note, the Lynda.com resource replaces the Online Expert tutorial program.

Lynda.com offers over 1,700 video tutorials covering a wide variety of topics including word processing, design, data analysis, email, and improving business skills. New videos are added every week and this web-based service can be accessed 24/7 from mobile devices and any computer at work or home.

On April 23, the majority of eligible staff received an email invitation from Lynda.com  to activate their personal account. However, staff with outdated work email addresses or personal email addresses listed as the “primary email” in UBC Self Service records did not receive the invitation.

Action Requested: If you are a manager of staff who belong to the one of the eligible employment groups and you find that some of these staff members did not receive the initial Lynda.com activation email, please have them contact  Susanna Mulligan at susanna.mulligan@ubc.ca to request account set-up.

We would like to invite managers to become familiar with the Lynda.com offerings and consider supporting and promoting this online  service as one way to assist support staff who are interested in enhancing or developing software and technology related skills. A short overview  video can be found here.

In addition to the Lynda.com service, staff may also be interested in exploring technology related programs offered through UBC Continuing Studies, Technology, Media and Professional Programs.

We have a limited capacity to extend access to Lynda.com to staff in all other employment groups at UBC Vancouver Campuses.  Please contact Susanna Mulligan in Human Resources for availability, sign-up details and user fees.

General Information and updates on the Lynda.com service at UBC  can be found on the Human Resources Online Software Tutorials and Training webpage.
