To celebrate the grand opening of the UBC Aquatic Centre, UBC Athletics and Recreation is making a big splash with special events from March 1-5, 2017. Join in for fun, food, giveaways and aquatics programming in this bright, inclusive facility.
Free UBC Staff & Faculty swim, March 2 (12 – 2pm) with Aquafit class (12:05 – 12:50pm).

Ongoing: Yoga and Pilates for Staff and Faculty at the Alumni Centre
Get stronger this spring by attending free yoga and Pilates classes with your colleagues.
Join us on Wednesday mornings (from 7:30-8:20 am) for some Pilates stretching and strengthening.
Visit on Fridays (from 12:05-12:50 pm) for yoga classes.
These classes will increase your strength and flexibility, and they are free for all UBC faculty and staff. Please bring your own yoga mat. Both classes are held on the 2nd floor in the Bill & Risa Levine Classroom. See you there!

March 15: PhDs Go Public Research Talk Series
PhDs Go Public events spotlight PhD students from UBC’s Public Scholars Initiative, who use the PechaKucha format to share how their research is contributing to the public good and making a change in the world. This year’s themes include education, environment, culture, social justice and health. Mark your calendars, and stay tuned for updates!
Michel Tremblay’s two-act play, first produced in 1968, against the backdrop of Quebec’s quiet revolution, changed Quebec theatre, with its kitchen-sink representation of ordinary women speaking in their own dialect.
March 26: Storm the Wall Community Festival
Come celebrate the 39-year-old UBC tradition that is Storm the Wall at the third annual Community Festival. This year’s theme: Superheroes! The popular event includes UBC Summer Camps prizes and giveaways with a chance at a free week at camp, live in-person superheroes, a European Bungee, face painting, games and activities, balloon art and so much more! CIS Men’s Basketball National Championships: March 17-20
The UBC Thunderbirds will welcome the country’s best teams when UBC hosts the CIS Men’s Basketball National Championship. This marks the first time in 33 years that UBC has hosted Canada’s national basketball championships.
Storm The Wall is one of UBC’s biggest and most iconic events! Celebrate a UBC tradition at the second annual Community & Kids Festival! Race, watch, or simply enjoy as the festival has something for everyone.
This year’s festival is a celebration of UBC’s 100th anniversary and will feature a performance stage with local performing artists. There will be lots of fun activities for kids, including face painting, crafts, and games.
Make sure not to miss Storm The Wall either! From March 20-23 experience Storm The Wall through individual and team participation, spectating or attending festivals!
Did you know that there are many steps you can take to lower your risk factors of getting some cancers? “It’s My Life” is an online tool from the Canadian Cancer Society that aims to make cancer prevention information more engaging. The Centre of Excellence in Cancer Prevention’s March blog post looks the tool’s effectiveness.

Walk Richmond-London Farm: April 2
Begin at the historic London Farm House, which includes a fully restored heritage house, barn and old farm equipment that illustrates Richmond’s rural history, and continue on towards and through the Britannia Shipyards. For all ages.
The Spring 2016 Wall Exchange lecture features Naomi Oreskes, climate change activist and historian of science. Admission is free, but space is limited so register early.

TEAM UBC Ride to Conquer Cancer Orientation: March 2, 2016

UBC’s 4th Annual Relay for Life, March 6
Join the UBC Community and the Canadian Cancer Society for a 12-hour community event to raise funds and awareness for cancer prevention in Canada.
Storm the Wall Festivals, March 22 and 26
Join the inaugural community and youth festival on March 22 featuring food trucks, interactive games, inflatables and a free Bobs and Lolo concert for the kids!
Then, celebrate the end of the semester on March 26 at Storm the Wall’s last day. This festival day will feature races such as the super-iron races, a staff and faculty heat, a fan zone with games and prizes, food trucks, and more.
Defeat Depression 5K Walk/Run, March 29
The Mood Disorders Society of Canada along with the UBC Mental Health Awareness Club are hosting a charity run/walk to raise awareness about the stigma of mental health issues and to raise funds for local mental health organizations.
