WCB Claim Reporting

Any event involving injury to a person or damage to property, or with the potential to do so, must be reported to Health Promotion Programs within 24 hours of occurrence.

The UBC Faculty and Staff Incident/Accident Report must be completed for every incident or accident, even if no injuries were sustained.

For serious accidents that:

  • result in serious injury or death
  • involved an explosion, major structural failure
  • involved the major release of a hazardous substance or
  • involved a diving accident

Immediately call 9-1-1 and Risk Management Services at 604-822-2029.

In the event of an incident, immediately tend to any injured parties, taking care to minimize disturbing the scene beyond what is required to provide assistance or to prevent harm to other individuals or the environment.

Following a serious incident, investigators may attend the scene to determine causes, so it is important to maintain the site so that a thorough investigation may be completed.

In all cases, the employee should complete the WorkSafeBC Form 6A – Worker’s Report of Injury or Occupational Disease to Employer (PDF).

The WorkSafeBC website can provide additional information on the claims process and will also have the most up to date versions of the Workers Compensation Act.
