Responding with Respect is a three-hour training developed in a partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association and UBC Human Resources. The training is free for all UBC departments/units, and it is designed to help faculty and staff to recognize the symptoms of anxiety and depression in the workplace, respond in an empathetic and productive way and also refer themselves or their colleagues to appropriate resources.
The training is an interactive opportunity to help create a healthier UBC community, particularly aimed at the most common mental illnesses: depression and anxiety. It includes factual information, best practices in empathetic communication, internal and external resources for UBC community members, and case studies that are adapted for each workplace to make the training pertinent for all UBC faculty and staff. It is designed to focus workplaces on mental health prevention.
The minimum number of participants in order to enroll a department/unit for the program is eight faculty and/or staff members. The maximum number of participants for each training is 30 people. Larger numbers can only be accommodated in different training sessions. For more information, please download our promotional information which is designed to aid departments/units to help recruit staff and faculty to participate.
