I’ve spent the last almost full four years dedicating my energy to your health, and I never would have expected it to become so much a central part of who I am. It’s not a mission that I can give up, it seems, even though I have chosen to resign from my position in Health Promotion Programs. My last day as Health Promotions Coordinator for UBC Human Resources is February 21. I am happy to say that I am not leaving your side; I am still, as ever, dedicated to your health. It will be in a slightly different capacity though, as I start a new role with the School of Kinesiology as the Manager of Kinesiology Outreach Programs on February 25.
It’s been a wild ride with you all. You’ve been with me through a lot. You were there to read my stories and encouraged me to continue sharing, such as: (more …)

Reaching out early and preventing suicide requires the help of everyone in the UBC community.
How you can help:
- Print one of the Suicide Awareness Day Posters and put them up in your office or building to help promote Suicide Awareness Day.
- Learn about suicide warning signs, find out how to talk about it, and discover support and resources.
- Wear orange on February 6 (Suicide Awareness Day) to show your support for those whose lives have been affected by the suicide of friends, family members, students, or colleagues, and to show that you want to reach out to those who are considering suicide.
Whether you’re thinking about suicide yourself, or you know, hear, or see someone who might be, the most important thing you can do is reach out.

TEAM UBC is once again taking part in The Ride to Conquer Cancer. Last year, their team of ten people raised over $30, 000 for the BC Cancer Foundation. This year, they’re up to 27 riders, with the goal of raising $50, 000 for cancer research. For those of you that don’t know about the Ride, it’s a 240KM journey from Surrey to Seattle that is spread across two days.
Two of the riders, Lynn Newman and Paola Baca, are selling mini-cupcakes to help raise $2, 500 each that they need to take part in the ride. Would you consider buying a dozen mini-cupcakes for a $20 donation?
Suzanne can advocate for their excellent baking skills as she purchased a dozen from them last year (and plans to purchase at least a dozen more this year too). Plus, they’re mini-cupcakes, so they’re not as unhealthy as you think! To purchase cupcakes, fill out cupcake order form 2013 and send it to Lynn (lynn.newman@ubc.ca) or Paola (paola.baca@ubc.ca).
If you’re not into cupcakes, we hope you’ll consider supporting one of the riders. They work so hard to do this ride and it’s for such an amazing cause. Go TEAM UBC!
