Associate Members

Associate Member is an unofficial position given to a faculty member when there is a need for members of one department to have a formal arrangement to participate in teaching and research activities in another department, but when a joint appointment is not necessary.

Associate Members may, in the department with which they are informally associated, have one or more of the following as responsibilities and privileges:

  • Access to departmental research facilities
  • Participate in the departmental teaching programme
  • Supervise graduate students in the department
  • Voting rights
  • Use of equipment etc.

Appointment Approval

Both Heads and the Dean (if cross faculty then both Deans must also approve).

Appointment Procedures

This type of appointment is not processed by Faculty Relations; it can be done interdepartmentally by letter only.
