As per the ratified Collective Agreement a length service financial award is to be paid to those members eligible for Career Progress Increments (CPI) with service in a CPI eligible rank for 20 and 25 years. The awards are funded through the Career Progress Increments and Performance Salary Adjustments pools.
“Career Progress Increments for Length of Service (LOS)
a) Effective July 1, 2011, each faculty member eligible for Career Progress will receive 1/3 of a Career Progress Increment (CPI) unit at year 20 and at year 25 of their initial appointment in an eligible rank.
b) For those faculty reaching their 20th and 25th year of appointment on July 1, 2011, the allocation of this length of service CPI unit will be funded from within the CPI pool. Subject to c) below, Career Progress Increments for length of service shall be funded from within the CPI pool.
c) For those faculty who have reached their 20th and/or 25th year of appointment prior to July 1, 2011, their length of service CPI unit shall be equally distributed in each of two years, July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012, to be funded exactly as the Career Progress Carry Forward’s, to the maximum of the Performance Salary Adjustment pool.
d) It is recognized and acknowledged that this agreement is fully funded from within the Career Progress Increment pool and the Performance Adjustment Pool and requires no additional funding from any source.”
a) Eligibility:
To be eligible a faculty member must be in a rank eligible for CPI awards. Ranks which are not eligible to receive CPI are not entitled to length of service awards. Eligibility is based on continuous service as per the guidelines below.
b) Current year 20 & 25 awards:
Those faculty members reaching 20 or 25 years as of June 30, 2011 will receive the full LOS CP award of 1/3 of a unit. These are separate from the retroactive awards for year 21-24 and years 26 and above and will be funded from the Career Progress Pool.
c) Retro-active Payments for members with LOS greater than 20 and or 25 years:
The “retro” payments (awards for years 21-24 and years 26 and above) will be paid over the next two years; on July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012, and the member will receive 50% of the portion owed to them in each of those years. The retro payments are funded from the PSA pool in the same way as the Career Progress Carry Forward units.

Notes:

Continuous service is not cumulative. If a faculty member ends their employment with the University and returns to an eligible rank at a later date, the start date for their continuous service for the LOS award is their return date.
The years of service calculation is based on the academic year July 1 to June 30.
In the following examples assume there are no breaks in service:
