Salary & Benefits

At UBC, we look at the Total Compensation picture – a combination of competitive salaries, generous benefits, great pension plans and supportive leaves.

For an overview of the total compensation provisions available to various ranks and types of appointments, please refer to the Eligibility for Total Compensation Provisions Summary. (Please note that this document prints on legal size paper; we would recommend enlarging the document to 11×17 for reading ease.)

Salaries are central to the compensation picture, and information about faculty salaries (including Librarians and Program Directors) is all here, from starting salaries to payroll details like deductions and direct deposit.

UBC offers a wide range of benefits to faculty members as part of their total compensation package (along with salary and pension):

New Hires

The benefits you are eligible for and when they come into effect may depend on the length and type of your faculty appointment, whether you meet minimum salary requirements, and whether you were hired prior to or after your Normal Retirement Date (“NRD”) (i.e. the June 30th or December 31st coincident with or following the date you turn age 65).

You can check the benefits eligibility for newly hired faculty.

Existing Faculty

For a full picture of the benefits and entitlements available to UBC faculty browse the full list of benefits available for faculty.

If you are an active Faculty member working beyond your NRD, your benefits will change as outlined in Article 7.12 of Part 2 of the Collective Agreement (salary & economic benefits).

Check Your Benefits Costs

Ever wonder about the cost of the benefits we enjoy? Take a look at the summary of costs, showing what (and how much) is paid by the employee and by UBC.

Pension Plan

Financial advisors tell us that no matter what our age, it is never too soon to start saving for retirement. With contributions from both the member and the University, the Faculty Pension Plan provides retirement benefits for its members.

UBC provides a wide range of leave options for faculty members, librarians and program directors such as leaves because of ill health, a new baby in the family, or for sabbatical leave.
