Re: Bargaining Bulletin #8 – Collective Bargaining 2011: Update
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with an update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC. An overview of collective bargaining (including information on the bargaining units) is available at http://www.hr.ubc.ca/collective-bargaining/.
As we communicated on December 24, 2010, the approval processes were completed for the agreement between the Faculty Association and the University for the period from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012. This was the second agreement reached at UBC under the Provincial Government’s bargaining mandate; the first was the agreement with AAPS representing management and professional staff.
Bargaining is resuming or getting underway with several of our staff unions. We are starting up again with CUPE 116 on January 14and expect to meet every two weeks or so until mid-March.
We are pleased to be scheduled to start bargaining with CUPE 2950 on January 19, and look forward to setting up more dates through the spring.
While we look forward to returning to the table with CUPE 2278, we do not have any confirmed dates at this time.
We exchanged proposals with BCGEU (child care employees) on the Vancouver campus in November, and meet again on January 13 and 14.
Unfortunately, we still have no bargaining dates scheduled with BCGEU at the Okanagan campus and IUOE 882.
Thank you for your interest. We will continue to provide updates as the process unfolds.
