Re: Bargaining Bulletin #6 – Collective Bargaining 2010: Update
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with an update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC. An overview of collective bargaining (including information on the bargaining units) is available at http://www.hr.ubc.ca/collective-bargaining/.
The University and CUPE 2278 (Component 1 – teaching assistants, tutors and markers) commenced bargaining with the exchange of proposals at the end of August. The parties met once in September and are working on scheduling more dates. Discussions have been respectful and helpful in understanding the proposals.
CUPE 116 and the University exchanged proposals on October 7th, and met again yesterday. Another date has been scheduled for later this month, and we expect more dates to be set in November and December. These first meetings between the parties have been cordial, with meaningful problem-solving exchanges.
At this point we still do not have dates to commence bargaining with BCGEU at either campus, CUPE 2950 and IUOE 882.
A separate update will be coming forward shortly for bargaining with the UBC Faculty Association.
Thank you for your interest. We will continue to provide updates as the process unfolds.
