Re: Bargaining Bulletin #6 – Collective Bargaining Update

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with an update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC. An overview of collective bargaining (including information on the bargaining units) is available at

Last week the University and the Faculty Association met for a long day prior to the summer break. A number of outstanding proposals were discussed, and negotiations will resume in September.

As noted in previous bargaining bulletins, we are also underway with AAPS and BCGEU at the Okanagan campus. While we await Provincial Government approval of our plan for staff bargaining, we have met for two and three days, respectively, exchanged proposals, and begun the discussions.

We meet again with AAPS four days this month: July 7, 8, 14 and 15. More dates are being scheduled for September.

With summer upon us, we expect to resume with BCGEU towards the end of August.

We hope to begin bargaining with the three CUPE locals (116, 2278 and 2950) as well as BCGEU at the Vancouver campus in September.

Finally, it is important to remember that this is a significant year for public sector bargaining. While the headlines have been monopolized by the dispute between the BC Teachers Federation and the Provincial Government, a number of settlements have been reached under the Provincial Government’s Economic Stability mandate:

Thank you for your interest. We will continue to provide updates as the process unfolds.

We hope you have a warm and restful summer.
