Re: Bargaining Bulletin #27 – Collective Bargaining Update
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with an update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC.
The University is scheduled to go to arbitration with the Faculty Association next week, with dates set for October 20-22. The parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement that included agreement on many proposals on January 30, 2015, but there were a number upon which we could not agree. The 3-person arbitration panel chaired by Mr. Colin Taylor Q.C. will determine the outstanding matters for the collective agreement with the Faculty Association with effect from July 1, 2014. The decision is expected later this year or in early 2016.
We have two outstanding staff agreements to negotiate for the 2014-2019 period. We will be continuing negotiations with CUPE 116 for a renewed Aquatic Centre collective agreement in the latter part of October, and we continue to explore possible dates with IUOE 882, which represents approximately 70 powerhouse engineers and mechanical maintenance trades.
An overview of collective bargaining (including information on the bargaining units) is available at http://www.hr.ubc.ca/collective-bargaining/. Thank you for your interest.
