Re: Bargaining Bulletin #26 – Collective Bargaining Update
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with an update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC.
We hope you have had a great summer, and we look forward to the start of the fall term in just over three weeks.
We are happy to share that the five-year collective agreement between the University and CUPE 2278 has now been ratified by all parties, and is in full effect. A communication with regard to the General Wage Increase implementation will be provided next week. CUPE 2278 represents Teaching Assistants (Component 1) and English as an Additional Language Instructors in the English Language Institute of Continuing Studies (Component 2).
There remain two staff unions with which the University has yet to begin bargaining for the 2014-2019 period. We are preparing to start negotiations with CUPE 116 for their separate agreement for the Aquatic Centre, and are looking at scheduling dates in September. As well, the University and IUOE 882, which represents approximately 70 operating engineers and mechanical maintenance trades, are in the process of exploring dates in the fall.
We are scheduled for arbitration with the Faculty Association in October, with dates set for Oct. 20-22, 2015. This arbitration will determine the collective agreement with the Faculty Association with effect from July 1, 2014.
