Re: Bargaining Bulletin #19 – Collective Bargaining Update

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with a brief update on developments in collective bargaining at UBC.

We are very pleased to advise that with the assistance of mediator,  Mr. Vince Ready, the University and CUPE 116 reached a tentative agreement last night.  CUPE 116 represents approximately 2,050 unionized staff who work across the UBC Vancouver campus in a variety of positions such as the trades, food and custodial workers, engineering technicians, research assistants, campus security patrol, and parking attendants.

The agreement reached falls within the Provincial Government’s Economic Stability Mandate and is for the period April 1, 2014, through March 30, 2019.  Both parties will take the tentative agreement through their respective ratification/approval processes and while these dates have yet to be secured they will proceed as soon as possible.

We want to congratulate the bargaining teams for all their hard work and want to thank you for your continued interest while we continue bargaining with CUPE 2950 and CUPE 2278.
