A message from Allison Matacheskie, Managing Director, Faculty Relations, and Lindi Frost, Executive Director, Employee & Labour Relations
We are happy to share that the University and Faculty Association have reached a renewed collective agreement that is currently in the process of ratification.
As you may recall, the University concluded collective agreements with CUPE 116, IUOE 115, and BCGEU Okanagan in 2019. These agreements are for 3 year terms and are in full effect.
Presently, the University is in active bargaining discussions with CUPE 2950, AAPS and CUPE 2278. These discussions are positive and collaborative and we look forward to continued progress. The University anticipates that bargaining with CUPE 116-Aquatic Centre will commence soon and is in the process of setting up bargaining dates.
In addition, we have continued to meet with the BCGEU (UBC Vancouver) in 2020. The discussions between the bargaining teams have been productive and aimed toward reaching an agreement. However, we have been unable to resolve specific key issues. The parties have jointly agreed to seek mediation to assist in reaching an agreement. Despite their commitment to the mediation process, the BCGEU has also successfully sought a strike mandate from its members. If we are unsuccessful in reaching a deal, the union may choose to issue 72 hours strike notice, however we trust that the mediation discussions will result in an agreement between the parties.
Thank you for your interest in this important process. If you are an administrator who has questions about bargaining, please feel free to reach out to your HR Advisor/Manager, or your Faculty Relations Senior Manager.
