Bargaining update #4

A message from Gillian Henderson, Executive Director, Human Resources, UBC Okanagan

UBC Okanagan and the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) have ratified an agreement under government’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate.

The mandate focuses on improving services for people and ensuring fair and affordable compensation.

BCGEU at the Okanagan campus represents about 650 people, including students, employed to provide services in administration, facilities and technical support, the library, as well as teaching assistance, and in food services.

The agreement includes:

  • a three-year term of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022
  • general wage increases of 2 per cent in each year
  • improving services through support for professional development, as well as targeted wage increases for the undergraduate teaching assistants and markers to address recruitment and retention challenges
