Online Application Instructions

NOTE: Vancouver and Okanagan staff career opportunities are listed together. Check the posting description (line 2 at the top of the description) or check the ‘Location’ column (view example image) in the posting list to determine the location (site) of the job.

  • ensure your browser is compatible with the application system
  • a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection is required if you are:
    • accessing, viewing or applying for postings via Self-Service
    • are off-campus, or are using a wireless network (even if on campus)
    • if you are using Self-Service and are off-campus or using a wireless network, you will need to connect via VPN first (using your CWL ID), and then log into the Self-Service Portal (also using your CWL ID)
    • see VPN installation instructions
  • by using the Faculty and Staff Self-Service web portal, internal candidates will ensure that their internal rights are recognized – if you apply as an external candidate, you will not be processed as an internal applicant
  • the link for external candidates does not require a VPN connection – for convenience, you may choose to view  postings via the external candidate link when off-campus or accessing via a wireless connection, but be sure you apply via Self-Service
  1. In the Self-Service portal, choose Careers – Staff or Careers – Faculty.
  2. Select the position you’re interested in by clicking on the Job Title (you can sort the postings by clicking on any of the column headers).
  3. Review the posting / ad description. To apply, click on the Apply Now button.
  4. Upload your cover letter and resume / CV as one attachment. You may also choose to use a previously uploaded cover letter / resume / CV, or to apply without a cover letter / resume / CV. NOTE: The system is unable to upload attachments with file names longer than 64 characters and / or contains punctuation.
  5. After the resume screen, complete your application by providing education and work experience information (if this information was excluded in your resume) and by answering a few questions about yourself and your qualifications.
  6. Click on Submit to finalize your application, or click Save for Later if you are partially complete and want to return later to submit.
  7. You will receive an email notification that your application was received.

Applying In Person or by Regular Mail

We encourage you to submit your application online so you can track your application status and receive email notification. If you require assistance with submitting your application online, please contact UBC HR. However, if you are unable to use the online system, you can apply in person or by mail.

Staff Positions – Application Form: If you do not have a resume, please complete the Internal Application Form for staff positions (PDF).  Hard copy application forms are available from UBC HR – see Contact UBC HR for campus locations / hours of operation.

Your application must identify the Job ID and Position Title you are applying for.

  • for faculty positions, your application must reach the faculty / department by the closing date on the job ad
  • for staff positions, your application must reach UBC Human Resources by the closing date of the posting
