Get in the Games: 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Ticket Contest for Staff and Faculty

110! That's how many pairs of Olympic and Paralympic tickets we gave away to UBC Faculty and Staff through our online lottery. We are in the process of distributing the tickets, with the first of our winners to attend a hockey game on Feb. 13.

Thank you to everyone for sharing the contest details with your faculty and staff!

Total number of entries: 4,580
% of respondents who were faculty: 29.3%
% of respondents who were staff: 70.7%

Location of respondents:
Point Grey campus: 73.6%
Hospitals: 12.9%
Other: 7.9%
Okanagan: 4.4%
Robson Square: 1.1%

 Number of faculty who won tickets: 36
  Number of staff who won tickets: 74

2010 Winter Games

UBC Visitor Centre: Pacific Spirit Place, SUB

The UBC Games Visitor Centre will be in Pacific Spirit Place in the SUB [map]. The Centre will be available for visitors to get information about the campus and sign-up for campus tours, as well as a place to sit and relax while watching the Games on available screens.

The Visitor Centre will be open Feb. 12-28, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the duration of the Olympic Games, and March 11-21, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the duration of the Paralympic Games. All faculty and staff are invited to drop in to take part in the available activities.

Reminder: Olympic Torch Relay: Feb. 11

On Feb. 11/10, the Olympic Torch will be carried through the UBC Point Grey Campus as part of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. To mark the occasion, the UBC 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Secretariat and UBC REC are holding a free campus-wide celebration.

Olympic Torch Relay Celebration
Feb. 11/10
4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Torch arrival between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Old Bus Loop at the corner of University Boulevard and East Mall

Celebrations and activities are planned in the lead-up to and after the torch’s arrival on campus. Exact times and participants to be confirmed.

  • Main stage and live entertainment.
  • Activities and booths
  • Torch building contest
  • Food and concessions

2010 Winter Games UBC Employee FAQ

HR has created an employee-centric FAQ to supplement to the Administrator FAQ, with regards to the period leading up to, during and immediately following the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
