The City of Vancouver has released the Paralympic Transportation Plan for the upcoming Games:
Activity levels on City streets during this period will be closer to regular conditions. No Olympic Lanes are required for the Paralympic Games. There will be limited road closures and 24 hour parking and stopping restrictions around Paralympic Games venues in Vancouver during this period, as well as some temporary pedestrian corridors to support the Paralympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony at BC Place on March 12, 2010.
The plan also has information surrounding the Paralympic Torch Relay. There will be some Relay-related road closures around UBC Robson Square on March 11 and March 12, prior to the beginning of the Paralympic Opening Ceremonies.
Keep an eye on the roads when you’re commuting to work during the Paralympics… and have fun!

In this week’s edition, UBC Reports interviews UBC participants in the Paralympic Torch Relay, to get their thoughts on the event and what it means to the community. Check out the article to read stories from the UBC students, staff and faculty who are participating in the Torch Relay.
(And don’t forget to keep an eye on the Paralympic Games schedule at UBC… it might get pretty busy on the buses and the roads to Point Grey!)

Yay! Paralympics!
The start of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games is less than two weeks away!
UBC will host Ice Sledge Hockey at the UBC Thunderbird Arena. Twenty games will be played between March 13 and March 20, matching up eight countries.
The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat has posted the Ice Sledge Hockey schedule on their website. Of particular interest to people who work and study at the Point Grey campus will be Tuesday, March 16, during which four Ice Sledge Hockey games will be held at UBC. The first game begins at 10:00 a.m.
We will likely see an increase in traffic (both bus and vehicular) to campus on this day. Your regular commute may be impacted.
For updates on the Paralympic Games at UBC, keep an eye on the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat website, or follow them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/UBCWinterGames/

If you’re planning on telecommuting during the February and March as a consequence of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on UBC’s Vancouver campus, there are a few important IT considerations you should be aware of.
UBC IT has posted some important telecommuting tips online and we recommend you review this in advance.
There are also some potential limitations of the UBC phone system (voice-mail) and the UBC VPN service during peak usage times that will also affect those at other UBC campuses who are trying to connect with their colleagues on the Vancouver campus.
UBC IT remains open during regular business hours during February and March. Bookmark the IT Service Bulletins site for the latest information on system updates.

The start of the 2010 Olympic Games less than one month away. We have put together a list of commuting and transportation resources, so you can plan in advance how you will get to UBC during the Olympic Games (Feb. 12-28/10) and the Paralympic Games (March 12-21/10).
Road Closures at UBC
The first phase of Olympic Games-related road closures at UBC will begin on Jan. 25. The UBC 2010 website has maps of the graduated road closures around Thunderbird Arena for the duration of the Games.
Translink will re-route some of its UBC-bound buses due to the road closure. From the UBC 2010 website Public Transit page:
Beginning February 1, 2010 and ending March 22, 2010 TransLink will provide increased capacity on routes across the Lower Mainland. All transit routes currently servicing UBC will continue to operate, however, buses 25, 33, 41, 43, 49, 480, and Community Shuttles C20 and C22 will be rerouted to accommodate road restrictions around the UBC Thunderbird Arena.
More information on the 2010 Games at UBC is available at the UBC 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Secretariat website.
Road Closures and Traffic Changes Around Metro Vancouver
The final phase of the transportation plan for the Games has been released. The TravelSmart 2010 website has details of road closures and traffic restrictions across Metro Vancouver, as well as information on transit and alternate forms of transportation.
