April 28 is designated as the National Day of Mourning, to remember workers who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational disease.
Flags at UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses will be lowered on April 28 in recognition of the the day.

The three CUPE locals at UBC (CUPE 116, CUPE 2278, CUPE 2950) will host a memorial event that will take place at the CUPE 116 Memorial site between the Chan Centre and Rose Garden. All staff and faculty are invited to partake in the ceremony.
The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. at Flag Pole Plaza, with introductions and speakers to start at 11:15 a.m. The event will conclude with a moment of silence.
