Appreciative Inquiry

Date:  July 9, 2010

Cost: UBC Community $180

In our intention to make things better, we very often pick up on the things that don’t work: problems, wrong behaviours, errors, and try to fix them. Our lives become filled with problems to solve, one after the other, and we don’t see the end of them. Meanwhile, it becomes increasingly difficult to notice or appreciate what works well, and because these well-working things don’t need fixing, they simply lose their importance.

With Appreciative Inquiry we learn to shift our approach to change by focusing on creating what we want rather than eliminating what we don’t want. We learn to ask questions (or to inquire) in order to explore creative possibilities (appreciative). If you believe or are intrigued by the statement that “we give power to the things we pay attention to” and want to make a positive difference in the workplace, this workshop will introduce you to:
a) the key principles of Appreciative Inquiry,
b) simple ways to shift from problem solving to possibility creating,
c) a language with which to phrase appreciative questions,
d) how you can apply the Appreciative Inquiry approach in your workplace.
Note: Cost of material included in workshop fee.

Creativity in the Workplace: Intuitive Painting – INPT

June 28, 2010
9-4pm
Cost: $205

Art is the exploration of emotion, the essence of life. Work is an essential part of our life and combining work with the wisdom of creativity draws humanity to the workplace. It is important to expand trust in our innate intuitive, creative ability.
The facilitator of this workshop has developed a unique method of painting that allows even the most inexperienced person to become an artist in a very short period of time. Artistic skills are NOT necessary nor an advantage. Intuitive painting teaches a new and positive way of perceiving our abilities. By making the creative process simple and fun it is remarkably easy to overcome fears of inadequacy. This workshop was presented to a group of CEOs of the largest companies in Japan and was an overwhelming success.

Each participant will discover the painting process in their own way. They will be encouraged to reach their inner vision and allow these feelings to be expressed in their art. There will be no competition or criticism, only positive assistance in bringing out a desired effect. Participants will also learn about preparation of canvas or paper, quality of paints and brushes, and practical painting techniques so they will be able to continue the process at home.

WORK RELATED BENEFITS

This workshop will help to:

- Encourage communication
