Job Action at UBC: CUPE 116

Posted by: | October 3, 2012

Update: Oct. 21, 9:30 p.m.: UBC and CUPE 116 have reached a tentative agreement, which means that the Union’s strike activity has ceased. Normal operations in affected areas will resume immediately. Read Bargaining Bulletin #45 for full details.

UBC has been given strike notice by CUPE 116, which will be effective at 11:30 am, Oct. 4, 2012. The University will remain open and provide as normal operations as possible, including the continuation of classes, programs and services.

During job action, students, faculty and staff are expected to make every effort to attend work or class, and should assume the campus is operating normally.  It is important for students to read the Academic Position of Students in Case of a Strike document available through www.vpstudents.ubc.ca.

If you as a faculty or staff member of the university wish to exercise a decision of conscience not to cross a legal picket line, you  must have provided notice in advance to your  head, manager or supervisor before Tuesday Oct. 2 at 11:30 pm (see UBC Policy 64).
