Academic Executive

If you are an active Academic Executive working beyond your Normal Retirement Date (your Normal Retirement Date is June 30th or December 31st coincident with or following the date you turn age 65), please select the following scenario that applies to you.

Note: If you are an active Academic Executive working beyond your Normal Retirement Date (your Normal Retirement Date is June 30th or December 31st coincident with or following the date you turn age 65), your benefits will change and will parallel what was outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement that was signed by the University and the Faculty Association to place a temporary moratorium on mandatory retirement.

Benefits Past Your Normal Retirement Date

Your Benefits Post Normal Retirement Date (NRD) will depend on whether or not you access your UBC Faculty Pension Plan. Electing the Canada Pension Plan benefit does not affect your benefits.

1. If you choose to continue to work past your NRD and do not access any of your UBC Faculty Pension Plan account balance*, your benefits coverage will continue in a modified form (see below). Your modified benefits coverage will continue until you access your UBC Faculty Pension Plan account balance, either voluntarily or as of age 71, when pension must begin in accordance with the Income Tax Act. If, at any time you elect to access your UBC Faculty Pension Plan account balance, please refer to point 2 below.

Note: * Excluded are those funds held in faculty member’s voluntary contributions and/or amount transferred from other registered plans.
