You leave employment at UBC, for any reason, after you have turned 55, and you currently have extended health or dental benefits through UBC or through a comparable spousal benefits plan.
Or:
You are the surviving dependent of a UBC employee who has passed away at any age, and who was covered by the UBC benefit plans.
Or for Employees working beyond their normal retirement date and in receipt of pension benefits:
You are working beyond your Normal Retirement Date (for faculty – the June 30th or December 31st after turning age 65; for staff – the last day of the month you turn age 65) and you are receiving retirement benefits from the UBC Pension Plan either voluntarily or as required by law (i.e. currently, under the Income Tax Act a member must begin taking their pension at age 71). Once you receive retirement benefits from the UBC Pension Plan you are no longer eligible for benefit coverage under the active plan, but are eligible for RSB.
If you’re covered by your spouse’s or partner’s plan and you choose not to enroll in the RSB Program within 31 days of your leaving employment at UBC and/or the end of coverage under UBC benefits plans, you will not have the option of enrolling in the RSB Program at a later date.
The definition of dependents on the RSB plan is the same as the benefit plans for active UBC staff and faculty:
