Paid Maternity, Parental and Adoptive Leave Benefits Eligibility: Postdoctoral Fellows (Employees and Award Recipients)

Postdoctoral Fellows (Employees)

In order to be eligible for paid maternity, parental or adoptive leave benefits, Postdoctoral Fellows (Employees) must:

  • currently hold an appointment of at least one year with a workload of 50% or greater and meet the minimum salary requirements for health and welfare benefits and;
  • received approval for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits from Human Resources Development Canada.

Postdoctoral Fellows (Award Recipients)

In order to be eligible for paid maternity, parental or adoptive leave benefits, Postdoctoral Fellows (Award Recipients) must have:

  • previously held an appointment of at least one year with a workload of 50% or greater and; 
  • currently hold an appointment of at least one year with a workload of 50% or greater and meet the minimum salary requirements for health and welfare benefits.

Postdoctoral Fellows (Award Recipients) who receive their funding directly from a source external to UBC (rather than receiving their earnings through UBC) only:  in addition to the above criteria, you must also provide proof of award and earnings and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number.
