Full-time, Monthly Paid Appointments

1)  If you have a full-time, monthly paid appointment for 12 months or more, you are eligible for:

Benefits Enrolment Code SEP017

Medical Services Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus two months)
Extended Health Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)
Dental Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire
Employee and Family Assistance Program mandatory - first of the month on or after your date of hire
Disability Benefit Plan* mandatory - date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Basic Life Insurance mandatory - date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Optional Life Insurance*AD&D Insurance optional – date of hire
Staff Pension Plan mandatory after three years of service oroptional on application prior to the mandatory enrolment date
Tuition Fee Benefit Program optional - after three months of employment

*NOTE: If your date of hire is between NRD (after the last day of the month you turn age 65) and age 71, you are eligible for all of the above listed benefits, with the exception of the Disability Benefit Plan and Spousal Optional Life Insurance (Benefits Enrolment Code SEP015).

2)  If you have a full-time monthly paid appointment over 3 months but less than 12 months, you are eligible for:

Part-time, Monthly Paid Appointments

1)  If you have a part-time, monthly paid appointment for 12 months or more and you work at least 18 hours per week, you are eligible for:

After 12 months of continuous service, you may be eligible for:

Staff Pension Plan Eligibility is determined by applicable Pension legislation and you must have earned 35% of the YMPE (years maximum pensionable earnings) of the year in which your 12 months ended. If you become eligible, you will be contacted by the Pension Administration Office.

2)  If you have a part-time, monthly paid appointment over 3 months but less than 12 months and you work at least 18 hours per week, you are eligible for:

Hourly Paid Appointments

1)  If you have an hourly paid appointment** of 12 months or more and you work at least 18 hours per week , you are initially given Benefits Enrolment Code SEP012 (payroll forms only). Upon satisfying the three month waiting period, contact Payroll to determine whether you are eligible for the benefits below:

Medical Services Plan optional - first of the month after three months of employment(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus two months)
Extended Health Plan optional - first of the month after three months of continuous service(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)

Employee and Family Assistance Program mandatory - first of the month after three months of continuous service
Disability Benefit Plan* mandatory - date of hire (automatic enrolment)

**To be eligible for benefits, you must be receiving the hourly equivalent of the monthly continuing salary rate.

2)  If you have an hourly paid appointment over 3 months but less than 12 months and you work at least 18 hours per week, you are initially given Benefits Enrolment Code SEP012 (payroll forms only). Upon satisfying the three month waiting period, contact Payroll to determine whether you are eligible for the benefits below.
