This outline is for information purposes only. All terms and conditions are governed by the arrangements made by the University and BCGEU and Non-Union Child Care Services and First Nations Child Care Centre. In the event of a discrepancy, the official document shall prevail.

*Must be guaranteed at least 20 hours/week for the length of the appointment when you are first hired.

Full-time, Monthly Paid Appointments

1)  If you have a full-time, monthly or hourly paid (must be guaranteed at least 20 hours per week) appointment for 12 months or more, you are eligible for:

Benefits Enrolment Code SEP018

Medical Services Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus two months)
Extended Health Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)
Dental Plan optional - first of the month on or after date of hire
Employee and Family Assistance Program mandatory – first of the month on or after your date of hire
Disability Benefit Plan* mandatory- date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Basic Life Insurance mandatory- date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Optional Life Insurance*AD&D Insurance optional – date of hire

*NOTE: If your date of hire is between NRD (after the last day of the month you turn age 65) and age 71, you are eligible for all of the above listed benefits, with the exception of the Disability Benefit Plan and Spousal Optional Life Insurance (Benefits Enrolment Code SEP016).

2)  If have a full-time monthly or hourly paid (must be guaranteed at least 20 hours per week) appointment over 3 months but less than 12 months, you are eligible for:

3)  If you have a part time, monthly or hourly paid appointment and you work less than 20 hours per week (regardless of the length of your appointment), you are not eligible for benefits and will be given Benefits Enrolment Code SEP012 (payroll forms only).

Hourly Paid Appointments (if you are not guaranteed at least 20 hours per week when you are first hired)

1)  If you have an hourly paid appointment of 12 months or more and you have not been guaranteed at least 20 hours per week when you are first hired, you are initially given Benefits Enrolment Code SEP012 (payroll forms only). Upon satisfying the three month waiting period and working at least 20 hours/week, contact Payroll to determine whether you are eligible for the benefits below:
