This outline is for information purposes only. All terms and conditions are governed by the arrangements made by the University for your employee affiliation. In the event of a discrepancy, the official document shall prevail.

You are eligible for one of the following two benefit programs:

1) You are eligible for the program below if you meet the following criteria:

  • a date of hire before Jan. 1, 2007 AND elected to enrol in the Staff Pension Plan, or
  • a date of hire on or after Jan. 1, 2007 (if you have an annual salary in excess of $147,037 for 2012 see next program)

Benefits Enrolment Code SEP002

Medical Services Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus two months)
Extended Health Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)
Dental Plan optional – first of the month on or after your date of hire
Employee and Family Assistance Program mandatory – first of the month on or after your date of hire
Income Replacement Plan* mandatory – first of the month following 12 months of continuous service or on date of hire if you were insured under your previous employer’s plan for one year or more (and you join UBC within 61 days)
Basic Life Insurance mandatory – date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Optional Life Insurance*AD&D Insurance* optional – date of hire
Staff Pension Plan mandatory after three years of service or optional on application prior to the mandatory enrolment date
Tuition Fee Waiver Benefit Program optional – date of hire

*NOTE: If your date of hire is is between NRD (after the last day of the month you turn age 65) and age 71, you are eligible for all of the above listed benefits, with the exception of the Income Replacement Plan and Spousal Optional Life and AD&D Insurance (Benefits Enrolment Code SEP014).

2) You are eligible for the program below if you meet the following criteria:

  • a date of hire before Jan. 1, 2007 AND elected to enrol in the Faculty Pension Plan, or
  • a date of hire on or after Jan. 1, 2007 AND an annual salary in excess of the Staff Pension Plan maximum earnings ($147,037 for 2012)
