Academic Executives

This outline is for information purposes only. All terms and conditions are governed by the arrangements made by the University for your employee affiliation. In the event of a discrepancy, the official document shall prevail.

The benefits listed in the charts below represent only the benefits for which new Academic Executives must enrol through the online benefits enrolment process. There are other benefits and entitlements such as leaves, tuition waivers, Professional Development Reimbursement Fund (PDR) and vacation that don’t require an enrolment form.

The benefits Academic Executives are eligible for and when they come into effect depends on your age as of your date of hire (for example if you are hired prior to or after your Normal Retirement Date (“NRD”) (i.e. the June 30th or December 31st coincident with or following the date you turn age 65).

1)  You are eligible for the following benefits if your date of hire is pre-NRD:

Benefits Enrolment Code SEP001

Medical Services Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus two months)
Extended Health Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)
Dental Plan optional – first of the month on or after your date of hire
Employee and Family Assistance Program mandatory – first of the month on or after your date of hire
Income Replacement Plan mandatory – effective date of hire subject to pre-existing conditions provision
Basic Life Insurance mandatory – date of hire (automatic enrolment)
Optional Life InsuranceAD&D Insurance optional – date of hire
Faculty Pension Plan mandatory – date of hire
Tuition Fee Waiver for Academic Executive optional – date of hire
Tuition Fee Waiver for Dependent Children optional – date of hire

2)  You are eligible for the following benefits if your date of hire is between NRD and age 71:

Benefits Enrolment Code SEP013

Medical Services Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to BC, you have a MSP “statutory waiting period” consisting of the balance of the month of arrival, plus 2 months)
Extended Health Plan optional – first of the month on or after date of hire(If you are new to Canada, you must satisfy the MSP statuatory waiting period before you can enroll in the Extended Health plan)
Dental Plan optional – first of the month on or after your date of hire
