Reimbursement of Smoking Cessation Drugs
UBC Extended Health Benefits plan provides reimbursement for smoking cessation products requiring a prescription as well as over-the-counter products, with a prescription from your physician. The maximum is $300 per person per benefit year.
If you have a prescription for Bupropion (brand name Zyban®) or Varenicline (brand name Champix®), PharmaCare will reimburse you at 100% for the first 12 weeks; after 12 weeks, the Extended Health Plan will reimburse you. When filling your prescription at the pharmacy, be sure to use your pay-direct drug card so that coordination of payment automatically occurs between PharmaCare and Sun Life (UBC’s Extended Health provider).
Your Extended Benefits plan also provides coverage for naturopathic services, which can include anti-smoking treatments administered by a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND).
To find out more, refer to the information outlined by selecting your UBC Employee Group. For specific drug coverage information, visit http://www.mysunlife.ca, use Sun Life’s mobile app or call Sun Life at 1-800-661-7334 or 1-800-361-6212.
Run to Quit Program
Run to Quit is a partnership between the Canadian Cancer Society and the Running Room. This program is for all fitness levels and provides a simple step-by-step approach that makes it easier to quit smoking by becoming more physically active.
Exercise can help cope with discomfort and cravings while quitting smoking. Program participants are seven times more likely to quit smoking than people trying to quit on their own.
