When recruiting new staff, you may need to post the position, advertise externally, or both – depending on the position you need filled.
Except for senior positions (Service Unit Directors, AVPs and VPs), posting is required for all UBC positions. Positions must be posted if they fall within the following criteria:
The postings appear online, http://hr.ubc.ca/careers/, and positions, depending on the employee group, are listed for at least 5 business days. (For senior level searches, a recruitment firm, an approved Supply Management vendor, is usually hired for support.)
External advertising is an option if the internal posting process has failed to identify a satisfactory candidate. A department may decide to advertise a non-union or management position externally, if the position requires a highly specialized or unique skill set. In these cases, please contact your HR Advisor or Associate for support. Initial postings must first appear on the UBC careers page before advertising externally.
